Turkle's Nest Farm
We price our lamb simply - the cost of processing and cost of the lamb are bundled together. The price is based on the hanging weight of the lamb. This is the weight of the lamb as it is hanging in the butcher's cooler.
Estimated Cost Example
Let's assume that the lamb has a hanging weight of 68lbs.
Price per lb: $8
$8 x 68lbs = $544 Total

More About Lamb Weights
Curious about lamb weights and exactly what you get? We're here for it!
Dealing with lambs we have 3 different weights:
1) Live Weight
2) Hanging Weight
3) Finished Weight
Live Weight = Weight of the animal as it is walking around in the pasture.
Our example lamb weighs 136lbs
Hanging Weight = The weight of the lamb after the first stages of processing, as it hangs in the cooler. This is around 50% of the live weight.
Our example lamb: 136 lbs. x 50% = 68 lbs hanging weight
Finished Weight = Weight of the finished meat after it is trimmed, wrapped, and sealed. This is around 70% of the hanging weight.
Our example lamb 68 lbs x 70% = 47.6 lbs finished weight
